That's fine with me ... is slink 2.1 or 3.0 or TBD?

Using it as such would be a great benefit for those of us who like
multi-architecture installations where some of the machines have very small
disks and not so much memory (this happens, for example, when you recycle
older PCs, Sparcs, and Sun3s (!) with decent screens). With 300M disk one
can install a complete root+swap+usr when /usr/share has all the generic
stuff. This is very sensible: Linux works much better when binaries are
local (because then they can be mapped out of the limited memory without
requiring network traffic). But it is not obvious how you install the same
package on several machines but share part of it ... this is something that
needs to be adressed (it is closely related to the generic issue of
maintaining identical collections of packages on several machines).

BTW, I am still looking for someone to mentor me into debian developerdom,
any takers? (the package format has developed a bit since I last
participated actively in 1993 :) My special interests would be

* functional programming languages (Haskell and ML), and their integration
into the desktop (that'd be Gnome, right :), and

* easy installation and maintenance of small (multi-architectural) clusters
(the interesting part here is that workstations can be useful in such
configurations *before* a complete Debian exists for them as soon as they
  have base+net+an x11 server, essentially).

This also means please include me directly in replies, thanks.

Cheers,
	Kristoffer
