This is very interesting.
After installing the manpages package again, locate still did not find the
man pages that actually did install. Does locate use a cache of some sort?
Shouldn't the manpage install be flushing that cache?

While this is a dual (actually tri) system, only one root system is booted
at any given time. The other file system is only available as a mounted
partition, and certainly is far enough down a chain of "unknown" path to
be "out of the way".
This is starting to look more like an installation nit. I will see if it
goes away on reboot. (I hate rebooting for no good reason ;-)
