Well, James Troup has kindly e-mailed me in private to tell me that my
last sentence may be easily misunderstood and could be considered as a
"bug terrorism" case (strange, because that would mean there would be a
lot of such packages, which I consider unlikely).
Anyway, I will rewrite the paragraph completely:
If there were a required package whose removal "can leave your system
totally FUBAR", then it would be certainly a candidate for becoming an
essential package (in addition to being required).
