No but that is no reason that date based versions should not
be consistent.

Because in this case the version number conveys something
beyond just a mere number: and consistency in nomenclature helps
developers, and users, to decipher the version.
If this is made consistent it would make it easier for a
developer to decide on a naming scheme (only one legel choice ;-),
It would also be easier to spot packages that are snapshots then.
