	Actually, Jason came up with a superior suggestion: let a
 character (illegal in the current policy) be chosen to be a character
 that sorts lower than anything else. (the current contender is ~)
 This char can be placed anywhere in the version --

 2.0.8~pre1 sorts higher than 2.0.7;
 2.0.8~pre1 sorts lower than 2.0.8;

	It can even be used multiple times in the version:
 2.0.8~pre1~1 sorts lower than 2.0.8~pre1;

	No special "epoch" semantics; `~' just hasspecial sort
 semantics in that it sort lower than anything (even lower than
 nothing)

	I like that ;-)
