Uploading updated documentation package to frozen
Hello there! :-)
As we all know, new upstream versions are not encouraged to go into
frozen unless they only contain bug fixes in order to avoid new bugs being
crept in during the testing period.
However, I would like to amend the above. (BTW, is it a Policy? I
couldn't find the word "frozen" in the Policy Manual. ;-) IMHO, the above
rule should not be applied to pure documentation packages, including (but
not limited to) all the Debian documentations and the various Linux HOWTOs
package. The reasons are rather obvious:
1. I don't think "bugs" can crept into a text document. Spelling errors
or grammatical errors, maybe, but I doubt it. Besides, even if there
are some spelling errors, they definitely won't affect the system. ;-)
2. Keeping the documentation up-to-date is a much higher priority.
If we were to ship out-of-date or even obsolete documentation,
then we might just as well not include them.
Speaking as a Linux user, I would be quite disappointed to find
that Debian ships outdated documentation just because of the "freeze".
All comments, amendments, suggestions (and flames if not too hot :-) are
welcome. :-)
