Can't build POSE 3.0a2 on slink

Has anybody succeeded?  What did you have to do?

(My problem isn't that it wouldn't build [make ran without error] but
that the executable comes up half-offscreen and then crashes when
opening a ROM file for the first time.  The same code built on RedHat
6.0 works perfectly.)
