Well, the CCCZH hackerspace isn't that big: One main room (which is
also contains the entrance) and two smaller rooms not suitable for
groups... So most chatting will be in the big room anyways.

I just talked with my boss: We could use our team's own meeting room
over a weekend or a public holiday (starting on Friday afternoon
shouldn't be a problem either) without any bureaucracy.
Advantages:
* University environment
* Small park behind the building, view on the park from the meeting
room
* Gigabit ethernet (ftp.ch.debian.org reachable over Gigabit :-)
* Eduroam wifi
* Other WiFi possible if needed in addition to ethernet
* Quiet (especially on weekends, except maybe RC model drivers →
potentially noisy, but we can close the windows then)
* Coop (mini-) supermarket on campus and open on Saturdays until 5pm.
* We might be able to use one of the wall-mounted whiteboards.
* Well connected to public transport. Direct bus to one of Zurich's
train stations (Zurich Oerlikon, most trains from the Zurich-Kloten
airport stop there). From Zurich main station you need to change
once, though.
Disadvantages:
* With the current table layout there's only place for 8-10 people,
with moving around tables and adding chairs maybe 12 people (3
tables a 4 persons). In the worst case there are 2-4 more places if
we also use the rather big windowsills (2 windowsills a 1 wide place
or 2 narrow places).
* The campus is dead on Sundays, including all shops. Only one
restaurant (http://www.alumnilounge.ch/) is open on Sundays from
10-16, but only during the Semester. Not sure about public holidays,
though. (This might change in the future since they just built
several dormitories on the campus, but I don't know when they open
and when they'll have enough impact to change shop opening times.)
* No projector and also no wall suitable as silver screen. (The room
is long and not very wide, with door+bookshelf and windows on the
far ends.)
* No hotel nearby:
http://map.search.ch/Z%C3%BCrich,ETH-H%C3%B6nggerberg-Haltestelle?poi=hotel&x=-131m&y=-882m&z=64
The closest hotel (ca. 1km) seems to be
http://www.hotel-kronenhof.ch/ and there's a direct bus every half
an hour. There are also Novotel, Ibis and Ibis Budget hotels about
2-3km away (either changing twice or walking 500m and changing
once).
Admittedly I have not much of an idea where in Zurich you could stay
for a reasonable price. The Youth Hostel is clearly on the "wrong"
side of the city (5-6km linear distance across the city).
Regards, Axel
