Re: [GSOC] Weekly Status Report #6 and #7 - Integrate AppRecommender with AppStream

This project sounds great.

I'll have to have a look at the project brief, sounds like something I'd be interested in :)

Hello,

First of all, sorry for the delay on both reports. With that said, on week 06 I have successfully added the feature on AppRecommender that allows it  to display which user packages generated a recommendation. Furthermore, I have also able to built and execute KDE Discover from source.

On week 07, I had attended DebConf. It was a really good experience and it was possible not only to interact with my mentor, but also speak with the AppStream mentor as well. During DebConf I was able to complete the AppRecommender package, which can now be found on Debian unstable with the name of apprecommender.

While also in DebConf, I was able to talk with the AppStream mantainer about how the application should handle recommendations. Although the format we found was not the best one for AppRecommender, I think that implementing a new strategy to handle this format will not be too hard.

This week, I intend to finish my patch to AppStream and maybe improve some aspects on the AppRecommender package. Currenlty, all the files generated by AppRecommender are stored in the user HOME dir. However, I think that can be improved.

I will also present AppRecommender and my GSOC experience in a free software conference in Brazil, named FISL. The talk will be a basic presentation of what is AppRecommender and how can anyone contribute with it. And the GSOC one will be a presentation on what is the program about, why someone should try to participate and my experience on the Debian project during the program.
