Just works here. (In normal mode). But I do have a sane system...
What does strace'ing soffice.bin say? (You'll want to use -ff or
something like that)

Which doesn't remove the user config.
It can't be the user profile, though if it also happens in safe mode and
you continued with "safe mode"...
