* What led up to the situation?
I had to import my signature (png) into a document sent to me.
* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
ineffective)?
I have checked the image with Gimp and could successfully import
it into Abiword.
* What was the outcome of this action?
The image displayed as solid black in the writer document.
* What outcome did you expect instead?
The image to show my signature.
