This sounds like a upstram bug. Unfortunately upstream 5.2.7 is already EOL
(yes, really. 5.3 wasn't even released when stretch froze - well, it fact
it was released only a few days before. 2 or 3 or so, no way to squeeze that
in..).
In stretch lifetime we'll only do really important bugfixes (this one doesn't
fit there) or security fixes.

So can you please try with 5.3.4? (Unfortunately no stretch backport yet given
it didn't yet migrate there due to failing because of the Java Stack Clash 
issues on i386...)

I at least remember many commits wrt conditional formatting-.
