Bug#795929: libreoffice-writer: printing not available unless starting from terminal

Package: libreoffice-writer
Version: 1:4.3.3-2+deb8u1
Severity: normal

(also occurs with the latest)
when using a cups print configuration with /etc/cups/client.conf,

libreoffice-writer fails to open a dialog printing window unless libreoffice-writer is started from a terminal

Does not work: start Libreoffice-writer from the Desktop menu, open a document, and choose File/Print. The Loffice writer window grays and offers no further input.

Printing works: start a terminal, and run Libreoffice-writer using "lowriter", open a document, and choose "File/Print". A prompt in the terminal shows up.

... continuing..
A password is prompted to the user (The printing service is password protected). Typing the password correctly, a "secondary" password prompt shows up again, and then a third prompt shows up graphically....

printing then works after
