When I try to save a document in AportisDoc format, it is saved, but
all characters with diacritics are converted to question marks.

I think openoffice should first ask in what encoding I wish the text
to be saved (my Palm uses windows-1250, but others may use ISO-8859-2
etc) and then save the document with the diacritics in the chosen
encoding.
