And why did you not report this 12 days ago when this entered sid and
only now that this version is in testing? Or did it only appear recently?
Which would suggest the problem is caused by something else being upgraded
and this bug therefore should be reassigned...)

X Io error doesn't sound like a crash to me but like a "X IO Error".
As X is mentioned: Which X driver do you use?

OK, so neither Gtk nor KDE UI.. Will need to deboostrap a i386 chroot
to try myself...
