As we are there, I just compared ours and SuSEs files (based on
OpenOffice_org-branding-openSUSE-3.2.1-2.2.src.rpm)

$ file /usr/lib/openoffice/program/intro.bmp
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/intro.bmp: PC bitmap, Windows 3.x format, 551 x 366 x 24
										  ^^
$ file OpenOffice_org-branding-openSUSE-11.3-intro.bmp
OpenOffice_org-branding-openSUSE-11.3-intro.bmp: PC bitmap, Windows 3.x format, 440 x 286 x 24
                                                                                            ^^
and:

$ file ~/OpenOffice.org/OOO320_m19/ooo_custom_images/nologo/introabout/intro.png
/home/rene/OpenOffice.org/OOO320_m19/ooo_custom_images/nologo/introabout/intro.png: PNG image data, 551 x 366, 8-bit/color RGB, non-interlaced

$ file OpenOffice_org-branding-openSUSE-11.3-intro.png
OpenOffice_org-branding-openSUSE-11.3-intro.png: PNG image data, 440 x 286, 8-bit/color RGB, non-interlaced

And indeed, it still doesn't accept the png for the splash.
And we and SuSE use (basically) the same ooo-build version.
