Typical broken upstream behaviour. They tested on i386 when you said you have amd64... My i386/amd64 box currently ia in repair, but I'll check when it's back.. But it might make sense that you tested the amd64 builds from Pavel Janik and report whether that also crash (2.3.1 was just a bugfix release, so it shoudln't have added a bug like this, but..)
