Hi, My apologies for the delayed response. I'm very sorry, it's been far to long since I did the update to know what was updated and exactly when it happened. All I can recall was that there was an OpenOffice update, along with about 5 or 7 screen lines of other updates, and after that pasting did not work. I attach screenshots of what happens after trying to paste. First some sort of giant dialog box having to do with character encoding, and then the failure dialog box. I suspect some sort of character encoding issue. Once upon a time this box used the C locale, and I changed it. I think this was long before I had the problem, but then again everything is lost in the mists of time. I tried: dpkg-reconfigure $(aptitude search ~iopenoffice.org | cut -c 5-30 and that didn't fix anything. Here are the current locale settings: $ locale LANG=en_US.UTF-8 LANGUAGE=en_US:en_GB:en LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8" LC_NUMERIC="en_US.UTF-8" LC_TIME="en_US.UTF-8" LC_COLLATE="en_US.UTF-8" LC_MONETARY="en_US.UTF-8" LC_MESSAGES="en_US.UTF-8" LC_PAPER="en_US.UTF-8" LC_NAME="en_US.UTF-8" LC_ADDRESS="en_US.UTF-8" LC_TELEPHONE="en_US.UTF-8" LC_MEASUREMENT="en_US.UTF-8" LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_US.UTF-8" LC_ALL= Humm.... The update may have coincided with my switch from gnome to kde. I just tried reproducing the bug (etch again) with gnome, sawfish, twm, and kde. The only time I have this problem is running kde. (I can't figure out how to do anything at all while running metacity.) I tried:dpkg-reconfigure kde kde-core kdebase kdebase-bin kdelibs kdelibs4c2a kdesktop
I did this while running kde. Logging out and back in did not fix the bug. Karl <kop@meme.com> Free Software: "You don't pay back, you pay forward." -- Robert A. Heinlein
