Bug#445724: fails to install (or uninstall) ttf-opensymbol

Failure to install this package prevents open office from installing! The
first statement is error in package ttf-opensymbol, followed by "E:
ttf-opensymbol: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit
status 12". The errors given for failure are about a dozen failures to write to cache,
beginning with /usr/share/fonts. Neither reinstall, remove, complete removal
or upgrade make any correction, some operation with this package is always
hanging and interfering with anythis synaptic does
