When I use the mouse to resize a text box in Impress, my system occasionally locks up. The mouse pointer will still move, but it continues to use the resize icon, and the GUI is unresponsive. No keyboard commands will work. I must press the hard reset button on my computer.

I experience this problem on two different systems with very different hardware.

System #1

  Linux Kernel 2.6.12
  Dual AMD Athlon MP 1900
ATI Radeon 8500 LE with ATI fglrx driver version 8.14.13 for X.org

System #2 (does not freeze entirely; I can switch to a console and kill the process)

  Linux Kernel 2.6.12
  Intel Pentium III 750 MHz
  nVidia GeForce3 Ti 200 with driver version 7664, X.org

Since I cannot restart X on System #1, but I can on System #2, I think the problem is with the drawing code for the text box. It causes the ATI system to completely freeze by locking up X, but the nVidia system manages to deal with it somehow, possibly because their drivers are more solid.

Other information:

  * The problem occurs less frequently on System #2.

  * Impress appears to do an emergency autosave while crashing on
System #2. It does not do this on System #1.

  * The problem occured previously with XFree86 on both systems

  * The problem occured previously with older 2.6 kernels on both systems

  * This is the only thing that causes these systems to freeze. No other
    programs do it.

Dear openoffice.org user,

Thanks for your interest in OO.org and the bug report you have contributed.

Your bug report [0] was done for a version which is now quite old (pre
version 2.0.0).

During the last 6 weeks I sent 3 requests to update this bug report, and verify
that this bug still exists with a more up to date version of OO.org.

Since the bug is quite old, and I didn't get any response regarding this bug,
I'm closing it. I'm using the current unstable version for proving version info.

If you'll find this bug to still exist in a future version of OO.org, please
reopen the bug and specify the affected version.. Let me know if you need help
with this process.
