Bug#283923: same symptom apparently caused by an inconsistent mirror

After months of troublefree Debian testing (en-GB) preseed installs, on 
2005-01-04 they started to fail with the error mentioned in this bug:

openoffice.org
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Same failure from both our on-site mirror and ftp.UK.debian.org.

On 2005-01-06 an install from ftp.US.debian.org worked fine. Retried 
ftp.UK.debian.org and that was fine too. The only change I made between 
attempts were the mirrors for 'base-config apt-setup/hostname' and 'd-i 
mirror/http/hostname' in the preseed file.
