I am more than happy to assist in any way that I can to get this bug tracked
down - either with helping reproduce it or providing any trace information
which might be useful...
(I'm am a programmer - but haven't got a clue where to even start helping)

Both of these solve the problem! thanks so much!

This however, does not solve the problem (and I guess is the auto-detected
value)
I do use KDE - so I assume that it must be a problem in the KDE setup; but I
can't see anything obviously wrong in the control centre
