Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1.1.0-1
Severity: normal

After upgrade to latest version (1.1.0-1/1.1.0-2), oowriter can not
display symbols correctly. Instead, it displays any symbol as a blank space.

However, the symbol is actually there. This is confirmed by saving the
text document and then openning it from my RedHat Linux 9 box, where
two versions of openoffice.org (1.0.2 rpms from RedHat and 1.1.0
self-installing tar balls from www.openoffice.org) installed. Both
versions on RedHat Linux 9 can display the symbols fine. Printing the
documents from RedHat Linux box works fine as well. I don't test print
from my Debian sid box because I don't have a printer attached.

Additionally, symbols are displayed fine before last upgrade, which was
four or five days ago? I can't remember exactly. But I am sure I upgraded
openoffice.org (or accompanying packages like openoffice.org-debian-files
or so) only once after the working status.

And I run xfontsel from console, I see two families of symbol fonts,
-urw-standard symbol 1-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-adobe-* and
-adobe-symbol-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-adobe-* are available. The "symbol"
family has all upper cases and lower cases of greek symbols; the
"standard symbol 1" family has only upper cases of greek symbols and
some math symbols. In my situation neither upper cases nor lower
cases can be displayed with oowriter.

This is crucial to me as I have to input many greek symbols in my
documents. By the way, the greek symbols in formula are displayed fine.

To repeat, open OpenOffice.org Writer, choose "symbol" instead of "Times
New Roman" or "Thraole" for font, type a for greek letter alpha, hold
shift key and press a for capital greek letter ALPHA, you'll see only
two spaces are displayed.

Thanks for your help.

Hi, this bug is no longer reproducible in openoffice.org-1.1.1-2.
Closing.
