Chris,

It's partially fixed.  As you can see on the attached image, the text
now displays correctly.  I've also tested bold, italics, and bold
italics.  They all display and print correctly.  However, the entry for
Palladio in the font menu still shows up in italics, unlike the other
URW text fonts (or other fonts, for that matter).  I'm willing to live
with that, but it seems that there is still some mystery.

As far as I'm concerned, please feel free to mark the bug closed unless
you have a burning desire to track down this ideosyncratic behavior.
