I assume the Debian binary since he reports a bug in the Debian BTS ;-)

Correct. We moved the dictionary stuff to /usr/share/myspell/dicts
with an appropriate symlink from /usr/lib/openoffice/share/dict:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 2003-10-11 19:08 ooo -> /usr/share/myspell/dicts

I do not know what DicOOo does and how it does what it does[1] so I
cannot judge at the moment whether that will work.
However, even when it shouldn't work on Debian OOo shouldn't crash..
