Bug#172622: Bug#172664: openoffice.org & libfreetype6 regression - more info

This is what I have discovered in addition:

- The problem is only seen in OpenOffice.org with libfreetype 2.1.3 installed
- It affects all fonts, not just the user interface font
- Fonts fail to display under a certain size. By default, the user
interface font is small enough to fail to display.
- If you turn off on screen antialiasing, all fonts fail to display, not
  just small ones.

I haven't managed to reproduce this problem in any other application so far.

Same for me.

Chris

I discovered today a simple way to make openoffice work: copy libfreetype6.so* (version 2.1.2) to openoffice program directory (/usr/lib/openoffice/program).where all other oo libs are stored. This way, the good lib is loaded when starting oo.

Then you can safely apt-get upgrade to libfreetype6 2.1.3 and run other apps without any problem.

By the way, I've followed openoffice packaging since a few months and the version of libfreetype used (recommended ?) for compiling openoffice is also found in openoffice sources trees. This suggests me that the maintainers of openoffice.org should include the good version of libfreetype in their packages (and install it the same way i did it by hand) until a fix is made in oo.sources to make it compatible with FT 2.1.3

So, who opens a bug on openoffice.org package ?;-)

Thx for listening !

Stephane
