Bug#171623: openoffice.org: OO crashes upon startup

When I attempt to launch any OO program I get the following:

$ openoffice 
Gnome session manager detected - session management disabled
Application ErrorAborted

I also tried 
$ LD_BIND_NOW=1 openoffice

with no apparent effect. 

Please let me know if I can be of further help. I have GNOME2 
installed. And I was successfully running OOO 1.0 installed from
their site (packaged binaries) since they first released it.
