ttf font troubles

grace and peace to you.

i have had troubles with truetype fonts. i have the msttcorefonts package
installed. i was able to use them after loading them with the printer admin
utility. the problem that i encountered was that if i made verdana
italicized, it would also be bold. i also ran into problems with not being
able to make it bold otherwise. i tried the openoffice.org produced tar file
and had the same problem.

i was able to finally get around this by making the fonts.dir file myself
using ttmkfdir and mkfontdir.

i have not tried this with the debs yet because my papers are due monday and
i don't have time to play with installs right now (i've procrastinated too
much already >grin<).

sincerely,
tim wheeler
