removing a bogus git branch on alioth

Hello,

I am trying to push to alioth the removal of a bogus branch, but this
is refused. 

% git push origin :master-experimental
remote: *** Deleting a branch is not allowed in this repository
remote: error: hook declined to update refs/heads/master-experimental

 ! [remote rejected] master-experimental (hook declined)

Is this on purpose?
