Yes, but in almost all packages I've worked on that field is usually
left untouched since the first version of the debian package. Moreover
this address onlyl point (1) above, not (2).

But, I can't understand your point: is it a problem to keep tarballs
there? They need not so much space and they are not going to be included
in the debian package, so what's the matter?
