I don't know, i don't really follow Perl stuff.

Could you summarize the dangers of using alternatives for us ?

Well, i agree that testing has failed in its usefullnes to users, but this is
principaly because of the glibc issue, what it does is help ensure that
once every package is ok, we don't have a nightmare for building for all
arches, like we did in pre-testing times. We encounter and solve the
problems early rather than at the last minute.

Once glibc enters testing, we get the added benefit of having backup
packages easily available in case someone uploads a really broken
package or something like this, so we can do more experimenting, without
having to resort to snapshot.debian.org in case something went wrong.
