Greetings, Ian has been showing a lot of initiative and pushing forward with organizing a Debian-NP miniconf in Brazil that was mentioned earlier[1]. The structure seems to be still coming together (depending on the resources we can find) -- perhaps Ian can update on this -- but it seems to be a definite go in one way or another. What is quite clear (a few people are committed to the idea at least!) is we will have a series of meetings, talks, and workshops between developers of Free Software and non-profit organizations in Porto Alegre around the time of the Fourth Annual Debian Conference (Debconf) and the Fifth International Free Software Forum (FISL). Structured either concurrently or directly before or after, the miniconf will allow members of non-profit organizations -- especially those in South America -- to talk with and work directly with developers on implementing, modifying, and creating Free Software specifically designed for non-profit organizations. Within the context of the Debconf "Debcamp" it will allow developers and users to sit down together and produce working examples. Discussing this primarily on IRC, several people have already volunteered to give talks or workshops. Perhaps they, or Ian, can post an update of the current tentative proposals. The next step is get a proposal for workshops, talks, or meetings from people that plan on attending (it's alright if it's still up in the air) who would like to organize something. Consider this a sort of Call For Proposals. If there's something you think would be great but can't do, feel free to suggest it here. Please follow-up onto this the Debian-NP list <debian-nonprofit@lists.debian.org> and feel free to forward this around.
