His work within the Debian java team has proven his understanding of free software, and at the same time very good understanding of java packaging. I have seen him learning on a regular basis since he first introduced himself to the Debian java community [1]. I now trust him to make good packages on a technical basis, that I can almost blindly upload. He has also proven to be very re-active to ftpmaster comment on non-free license [2], and cleaned-up packages accordingly to make them dfsg compliant.
