Background ------------- Applicant writes: My first Free Software release was Survex, a suite of programs to assist with mapping caves. I'm not sure when the first GPL release was, but probably about 1993. My first direct experience of Linux was probably installing it on a spare machine at work in the mid 1990s - we had an aging Solaris machine we used for email, reading usenet, and other internet stuff, and were wondering about replacing it. I think that was Slackware. I used RedHat initially at the next job, as that was the standard desktop for developers, but some of us switched to Debian at some point. I think slink was the current release. Since 2002, I've been working as a free-lance consultant on Free Software, mostly working on the Xapian search library and related things. 3. Philosophy and Procedures ----------------------------- Olly has a good understanding of Debian's philosophy and procedures and answered all my questions about the social contract, DFSG, BTS, etc. in a good way. Ollly committed to uphold the SC and DFSG in his Debian work and accepts the DMUP. 4. Tasks and Skills ------------------- Olly has a good understanding of the technical side of Debian. Olly maintains several packages packages and they are all in a good shape. There is one RC bug open, due to problematic licensing constraints, but Olly is engaged in solving it, so I don't see a reason to block. He also answered my other questions regarding T&S without problems and was very engaged and quiet successful in fixing RC bugs. 5. Recommendation ----------------- I absolutely recommend to accept Olly as a Debian Developer.
