Applicant writes: I'm Patrick Schoenfeld, from Moenchengladbach, Germany, born on 17h february 1985. I grew up not so near from here, in Idstein, near Frankfurt/Main, Germany. After I finished my school, unfortunately not very succesful and therefore with a bad degree, I at first had no great perspective and made some work experiences which brought me quickly to an apprenticeship in a job that has been my second choice, but who am I to argue with about four and a half million unemployed people? However our relation ship held only a year, because he was almost bankrupt when I started working there. That time I decided to make a change, leave my parents and go into the world. I searched for a job in Duesseldorf, my city of choice that time. Well, I found another apprenticeship in Moenchengladbach which is quiet near to Duesseldorf and so I moved there to start an apprenticeship as IT-specialist (called Fachinformatiker in Germany). Well, my first experience with Linux I already had before I started my first apprentice ship. I had a subscription of PC Magazine and there were a lot articles about it. As I found it very interested I started a folder, collecting every of these articles. Then, finally, I saw a "linux special" from the chip magazine in the kiosk, which was equipped with two CDs containing Debian Slink and decided to buy it and give it a try. It was new, it was interesting, but I was quiet unexperienced. After that I bought another special of that magazine which contained potato. With every version of Debian I collected some more experience. I even got a desktop working, although that was quiet hard with Debian at this time. Then I had a quick affair with SuSE Linux 6.4, but that wasn't satisying and I got back to Debian quickly. Later I had the first experience with servers and started doing some server administration jobs next to school. So, when I started my job in Moenchengladbach I had already collected some knowledge of how things work and I wanted to learn more. In the last quarter of 2006 I then decided that I want to give something back to the community. It was good to have a OS like Debian with all that free software and with all the freedoms and I wanted help making it even better as it already was. So I decided to helpout with a package, that I was using in company, and that were in a bad mood (smstools). I got the co-maintainer of it. Over the next month I got more involved into some packages, taking over another bad maintained package (mantis) after asking MIA team to orphan it. And so on. Currently I (co-)maintain 9 packages in main. Recently I joined the devscripts team, after providing some patches. I use Debian Sid on my desktop and laptop and file every bug that I find and try to be as verbose and helpful as possible, including providing patches if I can. I have prepared a wiki page on wiki.d.o [1], which lists some of my patches. So to my goals in the Debian project. Its not that I feel appointed for higher levels, so my work will probably always be base work: Packaging, bring already existing packages into a good shape and help here and there. Were "here and there" includes to help others with contributing to Debian. It would really make me lucky to help some non-DD contributors to get packages into Debian and eventually become a DD, if I should become a DD. [1] http://wiki.debian.org/PatrickSchoenfeld 2. Account Data --------------- Account: schoenfeld Forward-Email: schoenfeld@in-medias-res.com 3. Philosophy and Procedures ----------------------------- Patrick Schoenfeld has a good understanding of Debian's philosophy and procedures and answered all my questions about the social contract, DFSG, BTS, etc. in a good way. Patrick Schoenfeld committed to uphold the SC and DFSG in his Debian work and accepts the DMUP. 4. Tasks and Skills ------------------- Patrick Schoenfeld has a good understanding of the technical side of Debian. Patrick Schoenfeld is maintainer of detox, dnsproxy, mantis, password-gorilla, xml2, xtermset. He is also co-maintainer of devscripts, smstools and libmowgli. All packages are in good shape. Patrick Schoenfeld also answered my other questions regarding T&S without problems and provided patches for RC bugs. 5.
