Because the computer was really expensive and the games too, i had to program my own (little) games in Basic :-p. That definitely introduced me to the world of computing :-p [...] My first contact with Debian GNU/Linux was on a friend's Atari Falcon machine, and the main thing i remember from that experience is the really impressive debian packaging system, far beyond rpm. I can't remember which Debian release it was, but it must have been a 1.x. My first Debian GNU/Linux install was a slink, in late 1999, when a collegue told me to try it. Since then, I use Debian GNU/Linux on a daily basis at work, and finally dropped Windows for desktop at home about a year and a half ago. Also, as written by Mike's advocate: From: Josselin Mouette <joss@debian.org> Subject: Re: Advocate key for Mike Hommey <mh@glandium.org> Date: 11 Feb 2003 16:37:03 +0100 To: recommend@nm.debian.org X-Mailer: Ximian Evolution 1.2.2 Mike has been an active Debian user for a while, reporting bugs and providing patches. Judging with his current behaviour and his willingness to make more for the project (e.g. packaging things), I think he would make a good Debian developer. Moreover, he is a great web developer, and he's really a master in PHP, XML and CSS. I guess he could bring much to our web-related stuff (website, BTS, PTS, web-related packaging...), and he's also willing to. That's 2 reasons why I fully advocate his application. 2. Philosophy and Procedures ----------------------------- Mike has a good understanding of Debian's Philosophy and Procedures. He gave good answers to all my questions about the Social Contract, DFSG, BTS etc. 3. Tasks and Skills ------------------- Mike is doing a good job of maintaining libxml2 and his other packages. The BTS page looks neat and well-maintained, and the package builds cleanly. He also answered my Tasks and Skills questions without problems. 4. Recommendation ----------------- I recommend accepting Mike as a Debian Developer.
