Blender FTBFS in Ubuntu, needs minizip-ng
Hi all,
Downstream in Ubuntu, Blender currently FTBFS. Updating to a newer
version fixes it, but requires a newer version of opencolorio (2.5)
which requires the introduction of minizip-ng which essentially replaces
the minizip library (and a no-change rebuild for openimageio).
As the minizip and zlib libraries are dead upstream, they have been
revived as -ng projects. In Ubuntu, rather than doing a mini transition
and potentially causing things to break, we were wondering if anyone has
thought of doing the transition to the -ng projects. They are completely
API/ABI compatible and are essentially drop-in replacements so long as
it's done wholesale.
I can see this problem happening in the future as more and more upstream
projects begin to rely on the -ng projects. I think important
applications, such as Blender, would be sorely missed if they were
completely dropped.
Anyways, I just wanted to start the discussion if it hasn't been
happening already.
Thanks!
