Hi Steve,
I'm a bit uncertain whether opening an ITS for this package is the right
move, and I hope this is received in the spirit it's intended. The
package simply appeared as a Bug of the Day[3] candidate, and this is
what we usually do to demonstrate to newcomers how to help fix bugs on
Salsa. Abcde is in several respects special: a number of Debian
Developers are upstream maintainers of this cute and popular project,
and most remaining open issues seem to be upstream concerns rather than
packaging bugs. Thus, migrating Debian maintenance to the Debian
Multimedia Team may not substantially alter how the package is
maintained in Debian. I would fully understand if you decide against it
- closing the bug or tagging it wontfix would be reasonable. Yet I'd
like to propose it anyway: since many DDs are upstream maintainers,
shifting maintenance to the Multimedia team might draw attention to
these open issues, and could attract contributors interested in
multimedia-related Debian work. So please don't read this bug as
criticism, but rather as an invitation to consider an alternative path
forward.
So I would be interested in helping to migrate abcde into the Debian
Multimedia team, following the Package Salvaging procedure outlined in
the Developers Reference[1]. I believe the package would be a great
addition this tem, and I took the liberty to create the Salsa repository
here[2]. As I wrote initially you might have good reasons to refuse
this intend. Hopefully you might like some packaging enhancements
inside the repository anyway. I'd be happy if you might take these
over.
This package was highlighted in the Bug of the Day[3] initiative, which
aims to introduce newcomers to manageable tasks and guide them through
the workflow to solve them. The focus of this initiative is on migrating
packages to Salsa, as it's a great way to help newcomers become familiar
with a consistent Git-based workflow.
