Package: libheif1
Version: 1.15.1-1

The current version of libheif in Debian Bookworm cannot decode photos
shot with iOS 18. The reason is a new file format with features
regarding ISO/CD 21496-1. Details are discussed in the upstream bug.

https://github.com/strukturag/libheif/issues/1190#issuecomment-2180234324

Symptoms:
- eog (Image Viewer) cannot display the photos
- GIMP cannot edit the photos
- imagemagick cannot convert the photos
- nautilus cannot generate thumbnails
- etc.

Solution:
libheif 1.18.2 solves the problems.

Recommendation:
libheif 1.18.2 is already included in Trixie. libheif 1.18.2 builds
smoothly on Debian Bookworm as well. It appears to work fine with Gnome
(Image Viewer, Nautilus, etc.), imagemagick and GIMP.
Maybe the maintainers can include an updated package to Bookworm
backports?

Regards
Stephan

According to https://github.com/strukturag/libheif/issues/1190 this bug should already be fixed in upstream version 1.18.0.

Hence marking this Debian bug as closed too.

Cheers,
Micha
