Dear Maintainer,

Many introductory YouTube videos to Blender make use of the
Subdivision Surface modifier. It was while following one of these
tutorials for the new Blender 2.8 that I noticed it's not working.

	To reproduce:
	- Launch Blender
	- Press DEL or 'X' to delete the default cube.
	- Press SHIFT-A; add a torus or sphere to the workspace.
	- In the right-hand properties panel, click on the
wrench/spanner icon to enter the modifiers panel.
	- Click on Add Modifier; select Subdivision Surface.

What should happen is that the faces of the sphere/torus you
added above should be subdivided to yield a finer mesh. Further, by
increasing the value of the Viewport value, you should be able to
increase the amount of subdivision.

In my installation, nothing happens, and the displayed mesh
remains unchanged.

Next, click on the Apply button in the modifier panel.
Normally, this "commits" the subdivided mesh to the workspace, replacing
the original. In my installation, an error is displayed, reading:

	"Modifier returned error; skipping apply"

Some brief Googling consistently suggested that this issue is
related to a stale or misconfigured build directory; hence this report.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
