Re: DABlin main or multimedia?
Just to clear up some something it sounds like you've misunderstood: the
multimedia team, ham team, etc., all maintain packages in main. So it's
not a choice of multimedia v. main.
Main is where free software (per the DFSG) goes. It's also required to
be self-contained (you don't need to run software outside main to build
or run something in main). The alternatives to main are contrib (for
free software which isn't self-contained, e.g., requires non-free
software to run) and non-free (for stuff that is redistributable but not
free software)
Packages can be maintained by an individual, an ad-hoc team ("the
package X team"), a topic-focused team (like multimedia), a
language-focused team (like the Perl maintainers), etc.
Hope this clears that up.
