What if jackd runs as one user, and all subsequent users connect as
netjack clients on the localhost? I haven't tried this yet, just an idea.

There is a good reason why jackd isn't multi-user by default. One user
needs absolute control over port connection and disconnection, sample
rate setting and so on. In the pro-audio world, there has to be a high
level of trust before even two people can use the same mixer ;-)

I'm glad it won't happen, they are servers for two entirely different
use cases. Running both at once would require some ugly compromises. You
can ride two bicycles at once, but...

Having met both devs, I don't think money is the issue at all. Both have
strong ideas about where they want to go, and the ideas are very
different :-)
