I'm also in favor of switching to a vcs dealing better with branch and
the only modern vcs i know is git. So i would welcomed a switch to git
because dealing with 4 branches is a pain at the moment.

I haven't read these pages yet so i need to find times to do it before
offering any opinion.

Except that it's a normal package.
It's just a big package because there is 70 odd builddeps and 28 binary
packages. So it can be tricky to have it transitionned to testing
Also it's quite prone to security vulnaribilities.
