Bug#364927: menu and toolbars empty (no fonts)

Hi!

The problem seems to be related to unicode.

Hence the command:

  # env LANG=en_US.UTF-8 audacity

successfully display audacity with menu items appearing, while the command:

  # env LANG=en_US audacity

gives empty menus.

(running a Debian Sarge system somewhat upgraded to Etch)
