I can reproduce this on my DeMuDi testing system (effectively etch), running 
openbox & fbpanel, but only if I start amsynth from the menu entry. Closing 
from the File menu [Ctrl+Q] brings up the 'are you sure?' dialog but then the 
application freezes on OK, the same as if you had clicked on the window 
x. 'killall amSynth.bin' is then the only way to close the application 
window. The application exits cleanly if invoked from the command line, which 
makes this difficult to debug.

I also appear to be unable to save any presets.
