Ok, this is a kernel problem.
Moreover (unfortunately) I have never been able to build a working
kernel-image for my cobalt.

The bug report has been closed.
What about adding a notice, a "conflicts" or a "dependencies" to the
.deb package?
It should at least warn before causing problems.
