Network access to the serial console could be useful. At home I have
a DECserver 300 I use as a reverse terminal server and can Telnet to
the consoles of my servers this way. At work I do something similar
with Lucent/Livingston Portmaster terminal servers. A life saver if
you break the TCP/IP config, ssh, or something else rendering
network management useless.
