In porting the OpenAFS distribution, I discovered that without
modversions, one must jump through a seemingly endless series of hoops
in order to install the proper hooks in the kernel.  With modversions,
there is magic in the upstream configure script that does the work for
us.

I was just wondering if the decision to omit module versioning on mips
had a reason behind it; if it doesn't, there is at least one case where
it would be useful.
