What is wrong with just adding mdl as a new binary package in the existing source package?By the conventions of the Ruby team,[1] the name `ruby-mdl` conveys the idea the binary provides only a library. For them, the binary however provides an application conventionally named without the prefix `ruby-`; hence their recommendation to rename both the binary as well as files in the pristine-tar branch.[2]
I got that part. What you should be referring to is: "Source packages should have same name as main primary package" in [1]. I do not think it is a good enough reason to introduce a new source package. So I will not be sponsoring and leave this to someone else.
