Actually, symbols are meant for auto-generating versions in Depends: field,
to tell the minimal version of the library that matches the ABI. But,
managing symbols for C++ code is notoriously hard, thus dropping them is
not a problem.
There's another issue, though. The packaging includes a number of changes
that are not mentioned in the changelog -- and at least adding a new binary
package requires a different type of upload.
Thus: please mention packaging changes inside debian/changelog.
